Scattered across the south-west Atlantic Ocean, the Bahamas provide a feeding ground for a variety of marine life, including stingrays, dolphin and sharks. In addition to the reefs, the Bahamas are famed for their many “blue holes”, fresh water caves beneath the sea that have collapsed, and now offer places to witness the wonders of this underwater realm, giving comprehensive coverage of the dive sites there. Each regional chapter also includes a directory, setting out information on resorts and useful addresses and telephone numbers.

The New Holland series of dive guides have a well-established format and, once again, Lawson Wood uses the format to good effect. This author enjoys a much deserved high reputation as an underwater photo-journalist and author and, as always, has produced a very good product. Commencing with the very useful “How to use this book” -which explains the various maps, legends and symbols used, the work moves on to a potted history of the Bahamas which includes an equally important explanation of the country “today”. Here we also find the addresses and contact details for Tourism Offices in Canada, Germany, UK and USA. The next section is “Traveling to and in the Bahamas” where we find all the usual subjects of; accomodations, health, climate, money, visas, customs & immigration, travel, getting there, getting around, cruise lines, shopping, sports and topside attractions. The final part of this introductory element is a generalisation of the diving and snorkelling scene which provides everything one would need to know about local rules, regulations, conditions and so forth“.
